Alex Rodriguez is 0-15 since he hit his 499th career homerun off of Gil Meche, and if you are wondering why you haven’t been watching him at bat. Almost every swing he’s made between now and then looks like he is making an attempt to hit the ball three states over, which is no way to actually hit a homerun. It is an excellent way to not get your usual pull on the ball, not get on base and hit a lot of long fly balls that are ultimately easily catchable though.
In honor of his ridiculous swing, I am pronouncing this “Everyone But Arod Hits A Homerun” night. So far Abreu, Matsui, Cano, Cabrera and Posada (in that order) have hit homeruns. Rodriguez has hit the ball deep into the outfield three times, and only one of them had any chance of being a hit but that was stopped by Jermaine Dye making a very, very nice catch.
So let’s all celebrate this night by drinking beer and watching the Yankees bats do their jobs as people in the stands who barely have any idea what baseball is scream their heads off every time Arod hits a ball that is obviously not a homerun from the start.
Edit: 9:20pm, Matsui hit another homerun.
Edit: 9:38pm, Damon hit a homerun that landed in the upper deck, right field.
Edit: 9:42pm, Shelley Duncan homerun to left ties the Yankees team record for most homeruns in a game (8).
Final Edit: Rodriguez ends the game 0-20 since he hit his 499th homerun.
