I admit it, when the Yankees brought in Sean Henn I closed my GameDay window and switched my TV over to the PS2. Nothing says “There is no hope for this game” (or alternatively, “We win far too much, let’s lose this one in extra innings”) like a Sean Henn appearance. It’s not that he’s terrible, it’s just that he’s not very good.
So imagine my surprise when I checked the score to see how badly the Yankees were doing (I was expecting them to be losing my double digits) and find out that they were…winning?? I almost died of shock. They’ve beaten up on Okajima a few times this year but to beat up on both him and Papelbon in one night is unthinkable. A gift from the Baseball Gods or something.
In short, the 8th inning was ridiculous. Don’t believe me? Here’s the summary:
- J. Giambi homered to deep right
- R. Cano homered to deep center
- M. Cabrera walked
- J. Damon doubled to left center, M. Cabrera to third
- J. Papelbon relieved H. Okajima
- D. Jeter singled to right, M. Cabrera scored, J. Damon to third
- B. Abreu doubled to deep center, J. Damon and D. Jeter scored, B. Abreu to third on shortstop J. Lugo’s throwing error
- A. Rodriguez singled to center, B. Abreu scored
- J. Posada grounded out to second, A. Rodriguez to second
- H. Matsui struck out swinging
- J. Giambi struck out swinging
6 runs, 6 hits, 1 errors
NY Yankees 8, Boston 7
