Opening Night is Melky's Night

Last night was Opening Day, and the rain kindly held off until the game ended. I hope John Heyman and John Harper were watching after all their wailing that Wang was going to be terrible, but I’m sure they’d just say “Wait for it, he’ll be awful” or something similar.

I came in hoping for a good game, and luckily that’s what I got. Wang pitched well, Joba pitched well, Mariano pitched well, the team didn’t look like a group of Little Leaguers at the plate against Halladay. But it was really Melky’s night, as he played the role of unexpected hero with a homerun that half the stadium was doing their best to wave fair (it worked) and two nice grabs.

MLB is still in the dark ages and doesn’t allow people to embed videos, but you can check it all out here.

As I was waiting for the bus on my way home, about twenty regular police cars, four detective cars and two ESU vans rolled down the street. This is what happened. The traffic around Yankee Stadium was useful for once.

I don’t really understand this but it’s one of those things that happens when nerds are baseball fans (in other words, it happens a lot).
