Mussina was selected five times as an Oriole between 1992 and 1999, appearing in three of those games. He hasn’t made the All-Star team since joining the Yankees in 2001. He declined a last-minute invitation as an injury fill-in in 2006, saying, “I was at the supermarket.”
“If (Francona) calls me and I’m at the tractor pull, I’m probably going to stay at the tractor pull,” Mussina said. “I think I’ve done pretty much what I wanted to do this year. … I went out there and proved that I could still pitch when people said I couldn’t.”
That is the best response ever.
