Windmill Willie Would Come Back (Maybe)

Today the Yankees announced they would not be renewing the contract of a man who is sort of used to being kicked around by the team, Bobby Meacham. This leaves an opening at third base for a coach. One man who used to have the job, and who people around these parts like a lot for his general contributions to the team is currently unemployed, and you know the Yankees would love to have Willie Randolph back in their fold.

George King might be grasping at straws here–he spends a lot of time doing just that, after all–but he contacted Willie to find out if he would actually come back.

I’ll keep an eye on the [major-league managing situation], but to get back on the field as bench coach or as a third-base coach is an option to explore.

So, it sounds like Willie’s first choice would be a managing position in MLB, which at this time seems unlikely to happen. While I would love to see Willie gain some kind of employment with the Yankees, I am frightened to see him at third waving everyone in once again.
