If That's The Case, Farewell

Though Andy Pettitte Andy Pettitte has told the Yankees he wants to pitch again, the Yankees are hearing whispers the veteran left-hander would like a two-year deal. If that’s the case, the Yankees may balk.

I was in the middle of writing something up about how Andy’s defense independent pitching stats indicate he’d perform pretty well next year, but I think a two year deal is too much and he should be on a year-to-year basis with the team now. If he truly wants to pitch for the Yankees and not just anywhere, he and Randy Hendricks (his agent) will hopefully realize this. He’s never been an elite pitcher and he’s now reached an age where multi-year deals can easily turn into a bad investment for the team. He should be the fourth or fifth starter next year, which makes him somewhat replaceable for the team cheaper than he would likely come.
