It's Official – Marte For Three (Maybe Four) Years

From the AP:

Left-hander Damaso Marte and the New York Yankees agreed Wednesday to a $12 million, three-year contract that includes a club option for 2012.

Marte coming back, annoying on a personal level but not terrible. Signing a relief pitcher to a 3 year deal after last year where it was said over and over again that this would not be happening, not awesome at all in the least. We all know how erratic most relief pitchers are (Mariano Rivera is a freak, not the standard after all) and after last offseason when the Yankees completely backed off David Riske and Scott Linebrink because of their contract length I really was not expecting this.

(As a note, I didn’t particularly want to see either Linebrink or Riske in New York but I agreed completely with the “No three year deals for relief pitchers” mantra.)
