This Year's Ticket Whines

It’s that time of year, when the Yankees are finishing up their season ticket upgrades and additions a mere two months or so after just about every other MLB team. So with my tickets finalized a few days ago I sat down to figure out what days I needed to take off work.

Looking at the dates in my Friday+ plan, I noticed something that didn’t make me very happy.

Date Time Opponent
Wed 4/14 1:05 Angels
Fri 4/16 7:05 Rangers
Fri 4/30 7:05 White Sox
Fri 5/14 7:05 Twins
Fri 5/28 7:05 Indians
Thu 6/3 1:05 Orioles
Fri 6/11 7:05 Astros
Fri 6/18 7:05 Mets
Fri 7/02 1:05 Blue Jays
Fri 7/16 7:05 Rays
Fri 7/23 7:05 Royals
Fri 8/6 7:05 Red Sox
Fri 8/20 7:05 Mariners
Fri 9/03 1:05 Blue Jays
Fri 9/25 7:05 Red Sox

Four of the 15 games are day games. Four!! Since they moved over to tacking on non-Friday games last year, I fully realized I’d be getting two bleh midweek games and that one of them would be a day game. But both midweek games are day games and then for some whacky scheduling reason two of the Fridays are also day games.

I realize that 7/02 corresponds with the weekend of July 4th of course and 9/03 with Labor Day Weekend, but neither of these holidays include getting a Friday off. You get labor day off, and after looking at my work calendar I asked around and it seems the norm is getting Monday the 5th off.

How aggravating. What do they gain by having these games at 1pm at a time when people will be at work? I had planned on going to all the day games across my plans but because of this insane Friday fiasco I now hold tickets for many more weekday day games than I had planned which makes that not really feasible. And as I’ve mentioned a couple of times, I’m really annoyed by that. I doubt I’ll be able to find takers for the single seats since generally everyone I know has a job and isn’t getting those days off. Argh.

So that’s my whine for the year. Much smaller than last year but a whine nonetheless.

(Oh and hi, I’m back.)

Eh, no big deal since two of those are Blue Jay games and we traded away Doc for some gum and duct tape. ;-)

They gain two things from having midweek day games. The first, obviously, is an easier travel schedule for whichever team is leaving town that day. However, more importantly, they gain my happiness, as I get to take advantage of the weekdays off I get to pick up good deals from people who can’t use their season tickets.
