Hidden away in a news article on Yankees.com, I found this under “Tidbits”:

Girardi said is leaning toward not starting Hideki Matsui in the outfield in National League ballparks this weekend, but would consider using him in double-switch situations.

It appears that we are saved from a Hideki Matsui (LF) – Johnny Damon (CF) – Nick Swisher (RF) outfield in interleague play. While a step up from the Matsui-Damon-Abreu outfield that made a few appearances last year it would still be tragic for people who enjoy watching not completely horrible defense.

I will miss his bat in the lineup, but what can you do when you must play by the little kids’ rules?

I’ll take the end result, of course, but when the opposing pitcher spots you five free runners you should really score more than 2 runs off of him. In the event that you can’t hit him, at least run the pitch count up! Especially when he only throws about 50% of his pitches for strikes.

I was worried for a few innings that I might have to perform some honor killings but Ron Villone and Elijah Dukes helped me out there. Thanks, guys, I do appreciate it.

CC Sabathia looked okay tonight but I was nervous at times because he 1) Wasn’t striking anyone out; 2) Balls were getting hit pretty hard off him. Sometimes you don’t have your best stuff, but the least he could have done was let some good hitters smack him around instead of like, Wil Nieves.

But the end results were good and I won’t worry unless this keeps up. God Bless you, Nationals bullpen.

I have to admit, this recent series didn’t go anything like I was expecting. It was, however, pretty much as “Mets” as you can get, with nothing you actually expect to happen happening. It was fascinating because over the course of three games, you got to see three different eras of Mets baseball.

Game 1: Look competent for most of the game, hit the Yankees pitching a lot and come back every time you’re down. Take the lead off of Mariano Rivera (with two outs!), then get two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Lose by dropping the easiest pop-up ever.

Mets Status: Heartbreakers

Game 2: Beat up on the starting pitching from the other team, stifle their hitting with a pitcher nobody has heard of before. Breeze through the game. Watch as Yankees fans wail and gnash their teeth in disgust.

Mets Status: Miracle Mets

Game 3: Put your best starter–one of the best in baseball–on the mound and watch in horror as he proceeds to put up his worst start ever.

Mets Status: The worst team money can buy

A series win after the disaster in Boston (again) was absolutely necessary for the Yankees, and I am overjoyed that they managed to pull it off thanks to Luis Castillo. Four walks is still too many by Burnett, but three wouldn’t be bad and the last one came with him looking a bit tired so I can forgive it. He looked good after looking terrible in his last few starts so a good outing is a good outing, period. In conclusion:
