Remembering the Greatest Series of Commercials Ever

In the late 90s Addidas ran a series of Yankees themed commercials in the New York area. The greatest of these was, by far, the El Duque.

The other one everyone remembers is “What the Hell is ANSKY?” My mother’s best friend still wears her ANSKY shirt every now and then.

There were several others that I can’t find, and some that I did find but never found funny (like the Braves fan having horrible taxi cab driver luck) and that’s a shame. I know that Adidas is no longer the provider of shoes and all to the Yankees but it would be awesome if they put up a repository of all of them up somewhere.

Well, the Yankees had a tough loss that shouldn’t have been a loss that I will have plenty of whining about later, but at least they didn’t lose because of a ball getting deflected off a seagull.

Chris Ray is alive. He was last seen pitching in relief for the Baltimore Orioles while his arm was falling off in 2007, then got Tommy John and nobody heard from him for a while. Well he got his new contract with Baltimore for 2009 and check out his awesome incentives:

Ray’s contract also includes the following incentives: $50,000 for making the American League All-Star team; $100,000 for winning the Cy Young Award and $50,000 for placing second or third in the Cy Young voting; $50,000 for a Gold Glove; $50,000 for League Championship Series Most Valuable Player; $50,000 for World Series MVP; $100,000 for Comeback Player of the Year; and $150,000 for Team Leader in Rolaids Relief Man Award voting.

There’s putting stuff in a contract to pump up the total value and then there’s giving the Baltimore Orioles setup guy/maybe closer a World Series MVP incentive. Beautiful.
